Here is something for you to look at, and make up your own mind about…
The selection pressures of showing are profound. To win, your dog has to stand out from the others – so breeders select to the extremes of the \’breed type\’ (a description of the original type of dog, as shown by the old pictures in this video). And the edges of the type of any breed taken into competitive showing keep getting stretched until the show lines of the breed are slowly, over time, extensively deformed. This leads to suffering, and all sorts of health problems.
Have a look at the changes! What I see is healthy functional anatomy in the old pictures – dogs that are basically structurally sound. They were working dogs, all of them, and a working dog has to be able to move and be healthy.
